We, people of all continents, gathered in the Assembly of the Social Movements during the Thematic Social Forum Capitalist Crisis and Social and Environmental Justice, fight against the causes of a systemic crisis expressed as the economic, financial, political, food, and environmental crisis, that puts at risk the survival of humankind. Decolonizing oppressed peoples and confronting imperialism is the main challenge of the social movements of all over the world.

(ANHRI/IFEX) - Cairo, 16 January 2012 - The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) denounced today the Saudi security forces for using excessive force against peaceful protesters and shooting many of them dead over the last few months. In a recent development, on Thursday 12 January, the security forces shot and killed one protester and injured several others while trying to scatter peaceful demonstrations in Qatif.

Artwatch Africa is a project of Arterial Network, an Africa-wide civil society network of artists, cultural activists, creative enterprises, cultural NGOs and others engaged in the development of the African creative sector in its own right, and as a means to contribute to human rights, democracy and the eradication of poverty in Africa. Artwatch Africa - the establishment of which has been made possible by Mimeta Foundation - will monitor and campaign around the practice of, and constraints on freedom of creative expression in Africa.

Copenhagen, Geneva, Paris, August 25, 2011. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) and the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint programme of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), strongly condemn the continuous harassment and the multiplication of arbitrary arrests and assaults of lawyers in Syria, while the country remains the theatre of massive human rights violations.

Just over a year after nine people were killed when Israeli marines stormed a pro-Palestinian flotilla, Greece imposed a ban on all Gaza-bound ships saying it feared for the safety of the activists who are now trying to find a way to set sail. Pro-Palestinian activists hoping to sail to Gaza this week fully expected their flotilla to be blocked by Israeli marines. Instead, to their shock, the mission was holed even before they put to sea -- by Greece.

The extraordinary victory of the Egyptian people against Mubarak follows in the steps of the Tunisian revolution that cut down the Ben Ali regime. In the few days following the success of the Egyptian people, the influence of these popular and astonishing victories extended to the entire Arab region and beyond that, inspiring and encouraging similar protests and social movements throughout the Arab world.
